The fighter of the Spirit statue at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in Minnesota
This beautiful statue, also called "The Ghost Fighter" is a copy of "Der Geistkämpfer" in front of the Nikolaikirche (Nikolai Church) of Kiel, Germany...:-)
Ernst Barlach's Wiki bio is well worth reading! I ended up there starting with "Lucian" -satirist & one of the most popular ancient authors) wiki bio, then based on his incredible list of influences (read it and see!) his revival, that led via Wiki to "Aby Warburg" bio -scholar of folklore, traveled in SW USA, recorded Hopi & other Native traditions, his critic Eduard Norden, then soon to Barlach. From "militarist" to "pacifist" in WW1, his art condemned as "degenerate" by the Nazis, shades of current neofascist culture warriors, yikes!
